New Beginnings!

The title of this post may seem ironic to those dedicated volunteers who have served our Trenton affiliate of Habitat for Humanity from as far back as its inception in 1986, such as Reverend David Alpin and Richard Morgan who were honored at our Gala this year. Sure this blog may be new, but in the 26 years our branch has been aiding in the development of East Trenton, it has built over 80 safe havens for those who otherwise would not be able to afford a decent place to call home. The newest house (sponsored by Bloomberg) was just dedicated, right across the street from our very own East Trenton Center.

But change is coming in force this year, headlined by the grand opening of the ReStore! For those of our readers not familiar with Habitat, the ReStore is a Habitat-run facility that accepts donations of furntiture and building material, and re-sells it to the general public at a discounted rate. This allows people in the community to afford to furnish their homes, as well as generates revenue for future construction projects. For the ReStore to be truly successful, however, Habitat needs you! They need people in the community to lend a hand, whether its helping out on the warehouse floor or in the administrative office.To volunteer, contact the Community Outreach Director at volunteer@habitatta.org.

This blog will serve as a way for everyone to view the work that our Trenton affiliate is continually doing to help improve the conditions of our state capital. By reading about these stories through a volunteer's perspective, we hope not only to be an effective news outlet, but a motivational tool as well. Our city needs us, will you answer the call?
